Iblees is a hot, volcanic continent that is home to the demons. Malurrion is a cold, frozen continent that is home to the ice giants.

The Plot

The Amulet series follows the adventures of Emily, a young girl who discovers a magical amulet that allows her to enter the world inside of a video game. With the help of her cousin, Navin, Emily sets out to save her mother from an evil sorcerer. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles and enemies, including dragons, robots, and zombies.

The series currently consists of seven books: The Stonekeeper, The Stonekeeper’s Curse, Empire of the Sand, Cloud or Shadow?, The Last Council, Princess Academy: Sanctuary Wood, and Amulet 8: Supernova.

Themes

There are many themes in the Amulet series, some more prominent than others. One such theme is the idea of good vs. evil. Another common theme is the idea of family, both found families and blood-related families. Friendship is also a key element in the series, as well as sacrifice and determination.

Reception

Book seven, Amulet: Cloud Searchers, sees our heroes traveling to the Cloud Kingdom in order to find a way to stop the villainous General Kludge from taking over their world.

The eighth and most recent installment in the series is Amulet: King’s Road, which finds Emily and her friends racing against time to stop Kludge from carrying out his plan to destroy all life on Earth.

Aside from the Amulet graphic novels, the series has been expanded to include video games, an Amulet novel, an illustrated guide, and a children’s picture book.

The first video game, “Super ADVENTURE!” was released on November 15, 2011. It is an episodic point-and-click adventure game available for iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad. The game was developed by Clickgamer Technologies and published by Scholastic Corporation.

The first Amulet novel, titled “Princess Academy”, was published on February 28, 2012. The book was written by Shannon Hale and illustrated by Kazu Kibuishi.

The second video game in the series, “Secret Mission: The Forgotten Island”, was released on August 30, 2012. It is a puzzle adventure game available for iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad. The game was developed by E-Line Media and published by Scholastic Corporation.
